More efficiency in the OR: French hospital Group Générale de Santé counts on UltraGenda

As the largest private hospital group in France, Générale de Santé (GDS) is comprised of more than 110 hospitals and care centers including acute care, psychiatry and revalidation.

There are very few outpatient consultations in the group’s hospitals. As a result, the share of surgery in the overall activity is huge, particularly in the 60 general hospitals. No wonder that efficiency in the operating room is a top priority for Générale de Santé.

To achieve that objective, GDS has chosen solutions from UltraGenda. Over a period of three years, all 60 hospitals in the group will be equipped with UltraGenda Pro, UG Track Pro, and UG Contacts Store.

Each of the UG solutions makes a unique contribution to the new efficiency targets: UltraGenda Pro serves as the scheduling tool, UG Track Pro is used for programming and follow-up at the execution level in the OR, and UG Contacts Store handles reporting.

Planning in UltraGenda Pro is based on requests or orders. These are registered in ‘Hospital Manager,’ the clinical system from French company Softway Médical, and are automatically made available in UltraGenda Pro via visual integration. The method of anesthesia, as decided during the pre-operative consultation and registered in the anesthesia tool from Bow Médical, is integrated into UG Pro. Additional important information such as planned admissions, known allergies, and infections are also passed on to UG Pro via HL7 messages.

With all of this information readily available in UG Track Pro, the OR manager can draw up the operating program for the next day for the surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, and the OR rooms via a simple drag and drop in UG Track Pro.

Time stamps during intervention can be set directly in UG Track Pro or can be passed on from the anesthesia system so that -in operating rooms as well as other departments- progress can be followed up in real time and procedures can be easily rescheduled when delays or unplanned urgent procedures necessitate changes to the schedule. Internal patient transportation is also regulated by this real-time progress information.

OR management -as well as hospital management- can rely on accurate and up-to-date information from UG Contacts Store, enabling them to make well-founded decisions at every level. The reports regarding OR activity, that are mandatory in France, can be automatically generated from UG Contacts Store.
